(Fortunately, Greenblatt also outdated the studio's sterile-sounding Universal Media Art galleries moniker and returned to classic form with Universal Television.) ABC Art galleries captured setup a comedy together with a drama at NBC, among other outdoors projects. CBS TV Art galleries now counts NBCUniversal just like a customer after landing a collection order from USA Network for buddy dramedy "Common Law,'' from producer Jon Turteltaub.Possibly most likely probably the most unforeseen burst of sales formerly handful of several days arises from Universal Cable Prods., the NBCU cable studio produced in 2008 after Bonnie Hammer produced her own production infrastructure. UCP has not only nabbed series orders from non-NBCU shops (Lifetime's "In the Wall,'' MTV's approaching "The Most Effective My Pants Back'') but features a half-dozen comedy and drama scripts spread among Fox, ABC and CBS, plus projects for NBC proper. What gives? Why the alteration inside the up and lower integrated mindset that occur after last traditions were read for your fin-syn rule (for anyone who is born after 1985, lookup) inside the mid-the 19 nineties?Jesse Roberts, chief operating officer of UCP and professional veep of biz matters for NBCU Cable Entertainment, thinks the push to create an even more diverse portfolio of customers can be a natural evolution for network-affiliated art galleries. "The art galleries proceed and take extended-tail perspective. Your main goal is always to create a library of assets which will still spend each year.InchExactly where systems treat shows around the balance sheet becoming an immediate cost, art galleries treat them becoming an investment. The goal is always to create a robust pipeline of suggests that sell around the globe and experience forever in reruns. Think of it as the "I Like Lucy'' standard."You need to feed that pipeline with whatever content you'll be able to, which means you will have to visit as much customers as you possibly can,In . states Roberts. Other industry professionals condition the necessity to make the most of a studio's roster of creative talent deals provides incentive to appear around. You will discover only lots of slots the affiliated network must complete confirmed season, plus it covers art galleries to obtain their talent working. Seal's Chechen Leader Birthday Bash Performance Questioned By Human Rights Group

While Hilary Swank and Jean-Claude Van Damme have taken heat from human rights groups for appearing at a lavish Oct. 5 party for Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, so far perhaps the highest-paid star to turn out on the occasion has gotten a pass.our editor recommendsHilary Swank, Jean-Claude Van Damme Slammed for Attending Birthday of Chechen Leader Human Rights Watch, which had previously denounced Swank and Van Damme for their appearances at a celebration feting Kadryrov on his 35th birthday, has sent an inquiry to Seal regarding his performance at the event. The organization has called on stars who attended the party to reimburse any money that they were paid to participate. "Ramzan Kadyrov is linked to a litany of horrific human rights abuses. It's inappropriate for stars to get paid to party with him. It bolsters his image and legitimizes a brutal leader and his regime. And getting paid to be part of such a lavish show in Chechnya trivializes the suffering of countless victims of human rights abuses there," the organization said. PHOTOS: Top 10 Highest Paid Music Artists The website Caucasian Knot says Rosa Pashaeva, head of the division of arts and educational institutions of the Ministry of Culture of the Chechen Republic, declined to estimate how much the talent was paid to appear. But a representative associated with one of those in attendance tells THR that normally celebrities are paid in the six figures to attend such events but any time a performance is involved, the rate rises to seven figures. In Seal's case, he may have gotten a stunning amount per song because Pashaeva reportedly said that he was supposed to perform for 30 minutes but sang only two songs because of time restrictions. Seal's publicist did not respond to THR's request for comment. "As for invited celebrities -- till the last day we didn't know exactly who would come and take part in celebrations," Pashaeva told the Caucasian Knot. "I wasn't involved in organizing the arrival of celebrities; but when they came, it was quite easy to deal with them," said Alvi Karimov, the head of the press-service of the Chechen president. "They eagerly communicated with citizens, took pictures with them, and even danced lezginka." As previously reported by THR, Van Damme stood on stage at the party and said, "I love you Mr. Kadyrov" while Swank said she was honored to be in Grozny and wished Kadyrov a "Happy Birthday." After Swank spoke, British violinist Vanessa-Mae performed for a reported half a million dollars. There were fireworks and performances by acrobats. The celebration was held on a floating stage on the River Sunzha; portraits of Kadyrov were displayed throughout the city. Related Topics Seal

"Dolphin Tale" increased to No. 1 last weekend, throughout which "Lion King" dropped 52% in the third outing -- a pleasant-enough hold, thinking about Disney promoted the re-release like a two-week engagement. "Dolphin Tale" has cumed almost $40 million locally "Lion King," $81 million.Overseas, "Real Steel" could manage an upset over "The Smurfs."The film launches day-and-date in roughly 24% from the worldwide market, including Australia, Mexico, Russia and Taiwan. Following Success of 'The Lion King,' Disney Will Re-Release Four Other Films in three dimensional

The storyline from the box office in September wasn't that 'Warrior' made only $a million more total than 'The Debt' gained over Labor Day weekend, but that 'The Lion King 3D' rerelease would be a juggernaut. The Disney reissue capped this area office for 2 straight weekends in September and it has gained $80 million to-date. Consequently, what is the news shojuld not be a surprise: Disney and Disney/Pixar introduced intentions of Tuesday to re-release four past films in three dimensional within the next 2 yrs. Per the pr release, 'Beauty and also the Beast' would be the first classic to find the third dimensional treatment if this hits theaters on Jan. 13, 2012 opposite 'Contraband,' 'Man on Ledge' and 'Premium Hurry, three male-heavy actioners strangely scheduled for the similar weekend. Later the coming year, Disney/Pixar will release 'Finding Nemo' on Sept. 14, 2012. Searching ahead, 'Monsters, Corporation.' will receive a theatrical re-release on Jan. 18, 2013, four several weeks before 'Monsters University' -- the 'Monsters Corporation.' prequel -- hits theaters on June 21, 2013. Rounding the list, 'The Little Mermaid' arrives on Sept. 13, 2013. "Great tales and great figures are timeless, and also at Disney we are fortunate to possess a treasure chest of both," stated Wally Disney Galleries leader Alan Bergman inside a statement. "We are thrilled to provide audiences of any age the opportunity to experience these beloved tales within an exciting new way with three dimensional -- as well as in the situation of more youthful decades, the very first time around the giant screen." Offering more youthful audiences the opportunity to experience these faves inside a cinema is fine and dandy, however it seems Disney has shrewdly cheated what individuals have noted for years: September and The month of january are dead theatrical several weeks and re-giving beloved classics -- especially ones targeted toward kids -- is really a guaranteed method to box office nirvana. Having a "treasure chest" of retro classics, expect this gimmick to increase well past 2013, along with other galleries jumping in to the fray. Apple iPhone 4S: What Hollywood Is Saying

In Hollywood, Apple's launch of the iPhone 4S and advancements including iOS 5 and iCloud generated talk about what Tuesday's news might mean in areas such as content delivery and the future of the human interface.our editor recommendsApple Introduces iPhone 4S With Voice Control Features Apple iPhone 4S Elicits Mixed Web Reaction From ConsumersTim Cook's iPhone 4S Launch Presentation: What the Media Are SayingApple's Tim Cook: 5 Things to Know About the New CEO But some also acknowledged that overall, they were underwhelmed by the news, saying that they expected some surprises beyond what had already reached the blogosphere. PHOTOS: Super Bowl's Most Iconic Commercials, With Apple's '1984' Mac Ad Voice Recognition Shipping Oct 14, iPhone 4S will include a beta version of the Siri "personal assistant" voice system (named after the voice search company behind this technology, which Apple acquired in 2010), which underscores the promise of the human interface. "I do believe computers are going to become personal assistants," said Michael Cioni, CEO of Hollywood postproduction house LightIron Digital. "This is cognitive understanding. ... We saw a computer having a conversation with a human on a consumer device." David Wertheimer, CEO and executive director of the non-profit Entertainment Technology Center at USC took a cautious approach to this announcement: "Apple is all about ease of use. Voice recognition is the next level in making it simpler for consumers. It will be interesting to see how well it really works. ... Voice recognition is very difficult to do." PHOTOS: 9 Highest Paid Entertainment CEOs Content Delivery Wertheimer noted that generally speaking about the iPhone 4S, "you have faster download speed, which means better streaming; and the whole cloud infrastructure enables more content buying and renting. That is good for Hollywood." Some also pointed to AirPlay Mirroring-a feature previewed earlier this year for iOS 5-that will come to iPhone 4S. Said entrepreneur and industry vet Bob Lambert, a board member of ETC and a former Disney exec: "It is important that a smartphone becomes a nexus of your personal information and communication, offering delivery of live streamed content and prerecorded content to laptops and TVs." Lambert noted that in addition to content delivery, this also has potential applications in production, possibly for viewing of dailies. UltraViolet Wertheimer suggested that the launch of the iCloud and iOS 5 -- both scheduled for availability on Oct. 12 -- is good for Hollywood in that it could help consumers to better understand rights lockers. He sees this as a plus for the industry consortium Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE), which is readying to launch UltraViolet, a cloud-based digital rights system that effectively allows consumers to create a virtual content library that can be accessed anytime and on any device. "The idea that rights to the content can be stored in the cloud and brought to devices when needed is a big idea," Wertheimer said. "This is hard for DECE to communicate. Apple is going to help educate consumers, and that works to DECE's advantage." But despite more than 70 DECE member companies including most of the major consumers electronics companies and Hollywood studios (with the exception of Disney), Apple remains absent from the DECE table. This remains a challenge to DECE in that iTunes will not support UltraViolet content. In earlier interviews, DECE members have said that they believed Apple devices might still be able to play UltraViolet content. DECE was contacted Tuesday for this story but didn't respond to an interview request. Cloud Computing Some suggested that iCloud could help to elevate the understanding of cloud computing in Hollywood. "Behind the scenes there has been resistance to pursuing the use of the cloud aggressively (concerns surround dependability and security)," pointed out Lambert. "Once it can be shown that cloud connectivity can scale for devices such as this, it might make it easier for the production community to (introduce) professional cloud applications." 1080P Video Camera Director of photography Steven Poster, who is president of the International Cinematographers Guild, said of the iPhone 4S's 1080P video camera: "This is great, any tool that can be used for even semi-professional work is finding its way into the business. Today we make images on tools that a year ago you wouldn't have thought." But he warned that it still take professionals to make good pictures with this tools. Related Topics Apple
